Abstract

How can we ensure that AI acts for good instead of evil? Where do we draw the line between acceptable and bad behaviour? In this talk, I explore the ethical considerations and unexpected consequences posed by AI. Is Alexa racist? Can robots have rights? What happens if a self-driving car kills someone? What limitations should we put on the use of facial recognition? And what moral choices must we make in programming AI?

About the Speaker

He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science, and was named on the international "Who's Who in AI" list of influencers. He has authored three books on AI for a general audience, the most recent entitled "Machines Behaving Badly: the morality of AI".
